QVHHL Update - November 29th, 2021

We had two games Friday evening...at home the Odessa/Vibank Bruins scored once in the first period, three times in the second period and then one more time in the third period to take a 5-0 lead on Lumsden before the Monarchs scored the last three goals of the third period and made the final 5-3 Bruins. Logan Herchak, Troy Murray, Linden Lang, Tyler King and Marshall Wilton with a power play goal scored for the Bruins. The Monarchs got power play goals from Dale Spelchen, Andrew Perrault plus a goal from Kevin Dufour. The Monarchs had 6 minor penalties, one double minor penalty and a misconduct. The Bruins had 4 minor penalties and a misconduct. Shane Bloomquist picked up the win in net for the Bruins and Dawson McCauley was in net for the Monarchs. Also on Friday evening Milestone was in Southey. The Flyers turned this game around with three goals in the second period while the game was tied 1-1 and went on to a 6-4 win over the Marlins. The Marlins scored twice in the second peiod and again in the third to get within one goal but that was as close as they got. Dylan Giblett led the way for the Flyers with two power play goals, Shelby Gray, Austin Yano, Austin Bourhis and Brayden Cockwill with a short handed goal all scored for Milestone. Logan Gorsalitz had three assists in this game. Arthur MIller had two goals including a power play goal, Rhett Sandercock had a power play goal and Chaston Sare scored an unassistaed goal for the Southey Marlins. The Marlins had 5 minor penalties, one major penalty for fighting, two misconducts and a game misconduct. The Flyers had 6 minor penalties, two major penalties and two game misconducts. Thomas Spence picked up the win in the Milestone net and Kevin Orthner was in the Southey net.

On Saturday evening the Marlins were in Lumsden to play the Monarchs. This game was played in an hour fifty and only three penalties, voila it can be done! Kevin Dufour would score 27 seconds into the first period on a delayed penalty call and that is all the Monarchs would need. Although Landin Moldenhauer let in the first shot, he would stop the next 20 shots before Liam Brennan scored to make it 2-0 after two periods. At that point the Monarchs led the shot clock 31-7. In the third period the Marlins outshot the Monarchs 12-7 but the Monarchs would outscore the Marlins 3-0 and win 5-0. The goals in the third came from Tyler Lees with two goals and Sam Aulie. Both goalies played very well and there were a lot of great saves including a highlight reel glove save by Moldenhauer in the second and two point blank saves by McCauley in the third period and also a Perrault defensive play on what looked like a for sure opportunity for the Marlins. Dawson MacCauley would pick up the win and shutout with 21 saves for the Monarchs. Moldenhauer stopped 33 shots in the Marlins net. In Milestone, The Flyers picked up their second win of the weekend with a 6-1 win over the Bethune Bulldogs. Brayden Cockwill led the way with a natural hat trick which included a power play goal. Logan Gorsalitz scored twice including a shorthanded goal that would be the game winner. Cam McGeough also scored for the Flyers. Morgan Gallais had three assists in this game for the Flyers, Jaxon Debert scored the lone Bethune goal. The Flyers had four minor penalties and the Bulldogs had two. Thomas Spence picked up the win in the Milestone net and Arlen Kirshniryk was in the Bethune net. Our final game on Saturday evening saw the Balcarres Broncs defeat the Odessa/Vibanlk Bruins 8-5 in Balcarres. The Bruins had the lead 3-2 after one period and the game was tied 4-4 going into the third period but the Flyers would score three early third period goals in a minute and 36 seconds to put this game away. Corey Kosloski lead the way for the Broncs with four goals and an assist. Brayden Frank, Cody Ellingson, Brett Boha and Tyler Bell also scored for the Broncs. Kris Treso, Kyle Stroh, Eamon Milligan, Dylan Herman and Marshall Wuilton scored for the Bruins. Dean Brothen was in net for the Broncs and picked up the win and Garrett Bloomquist was in net for the Bruins. The Bruins had four minor penalties and the Broncs had two.

Now that we have had three weeks of play the stats are starting to come together and mean something. Most noticable in team stats are the 590 minutes of penalties in just 13 games played....13 games....Balcarres Broncs are the least penalized team at 16.7 minutes per game The leading power play in the league belongs to the Grenfell Spitfires at 44.4%. They are followed by Milestone at 37.5% and Lumsden at 36.4%. The lowest power play percenatge belongs to Odessa/Vibank at 16.7%. The best penalty killing unit in the league belongs to both Gerenfell and Balcarres at 80%. The Milestone Flyers lead all teams with two shorthanded goals scored and the Bethune Bulldogs have allowed three shorthanded goals.

Eamon Milligan from the Bruins with 6 goals and 4 assists and Logan Goralitz from the Flyers with 3 goals and 7 assists and 10 points lead the scoring race. Corey Kosloski form the Broncs, Kyle Johnson from the Monarchs, Kevin Dufour from the Monarchs and Logan Herchak from the Bruins round out the top five. Mitch Kilgore from the Spitfires leads all goalies with two wins and a 2.00 gaa. Thomas Spence from the Flyers sports a 2-1-0 record and a 3.00 gaa. David Spooner from the Broncs and Shane B loomquist from the Bruins also have a 3.00 gaa and one win. 

On Friday evening the Balcarres Broncs (3-0-0) are in Southey to play the Marlins (1-2-0) at 8:00 p.m. The Grenfell Spitfires (2-1-0) are in Odeesa/Vibank to play the Bruins (2-2-1) at 8:30 p.m. On Saturday evening the Milestone Flyers (3-1-0) will have a rematch with the Bethune Bulldogs (0-4-0) in Bethune at 8:00 p.m., the Lumsden Monarchs (2-2-0) are in Balcarres at 8:00 p.m. and the  Bruins will be in Souithey to play the Marlins at 8:00 p.m.
